Techniker took the decision to move their system platform from Macintosh to Windows. We installed a new server, along with twenty workstations, a new VPN network, Bentley Microstation and print services within a weekend - whilst retaining mailbox data from Entourage. Techniker users can now work on Microstation remotely, allowing technicians to complete work for urgent submissions remote from the office.
Techniker's Project Managers and Senior Engineers can access their project data when on site, on the train, at home etc. via VPN links.
Strong group policies provided security and application rollout, reducing Techniker's technical workload.
Since then, VEN Systems have provided resilience and added productivity with:
- VENLink TriWAN 40.3 - providing up to 40Mb over a single routed connection using various ISPs in case of failure - therefore never losing connectivity for email, remote access and VoIP.
- Bentley Microstation Deployment - with Select Server for terminal access on floating licenses.
- BlackBerry Enterprise Service - Synchronising Mobile Handsets to Outlook contacts, tasks, calendar, etc. VEN Systems' Mobile Solutions organised Techniker's contract with Orange, relieving staff of the responsibility for porting and writing application forms.
- VoIP IP PBX System - Cheap line rental and calls, with VPN users linking in securely from Techniker's Manchester office.
