A brief on VMWare Inc

VMWare Inc was founded by Diane Greene, Mendel Rosenblum, Scott Devine, Edward Wang and Edouard Bugnion in 1998 and debuted its VMWare Workstation product in 1999. VMware was already running on Windows and Linux before a Mac OS X version was released in late 2006 and already had 99 of the Fortune 100 companies as customers who had realised that the major benefit of Virtualisation was a higher return on investment. VMWare entered the server market with hosted services utilising their GSX Server and their hostless ESX Server products and followed these up with VMWare Virtual Center in 2003 and had already established itself as the industry leader in Virtualisation.

In 2004 VMWare Inc was acquired by EMC Corporation, the largest provider of Data Storage Platforms in the world.

In 2008, VMWare Inc announced it was joining forces with Cisco to provide Data Centre Solutions and developed a Distrubuted Virtual Software Switch.
