Outbound Restrictions
As an employer, are you worried about your workforce browsing personal email, bittorrent, gambling and social networking sites (just a few examples) when they should be working? Not only does this impact on the productivity of your workforce, the more malicious sites visited whilst employees browse the internet can lead to nasty trojans and spyware being installed on their machines without their knowledge. VEN Systems use a combination of content filtering (software and hardware) and group policy internet explorer lockdown methods (server based) to keep your staff protected and productive.
Reasons to lock down website browsing in the workplace:
- Hackers and organised criminals use the web to launch phishing and spyware attacks through sites that would appear to be safe thus making confidential information leaks (e.g. online banking details, paypal transactions) all too easy, just by entering sensitive details into a webpage. Phishing and spyware attacks notoriously dial home with whatever information they collect as provided by unsuspecting users. This is the major cause of identity fraud on the internet since typical users aren't necessarily security savvy.
- Many gambling and adult sites carry a plethora of spyware and adware that can hijack internet browsers to redirect searches and your home page to other sites. These hijacks normally involve fake messages being displayed by Windows, tricking the user into buying software to solve the existing problem. This software opens up backdoors for more adware and spyware to install itself. VEN Systems can enforce hardware content filtering to give you control over which sites your staff can visit online, thus reducing the risk to your network and increasing your workforce's productivity. This lockdown cannot be changed by any users on your network and can be implemented outside of the network for traveling business laptops.
- VEN Systems can implement firewall blocks and group policy overrides to stop your workforce from installing software and browsing illegal file sharing sites (to stop your users from sharing your company's sensitive data, pirated software, films and music) which are tracked by many ISPs and governmental agencies. Many people are now finding themselves being issued 'cease and desist' letters from their internet providers who use a 'sandbox' technique for tracking how many connections you have to bittorrent trackers and peer to peer sites. Using this technique, ISPs can accurately spot illegal downloads and uploads and can throttle your overall connection speed, disconnect you or report you to the relevant law enforcement agencies. This also greatly reduces your internet bandwidth for legitimate internet usage and impacts on services such as email and site to site connections.
