MS Office Communications Server 2007 is an enterprise-level server that provides the center-piece for all real-time communications within Microsoft Office. Presence awareness, instant messaging, peer-to-peer audio and video, application sharing, and collaboration all depend on it. Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007, the next version of Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005, will add on-premise Web conferencing and the ability for Office Communicator 2007 to make and receive voice calls.
Microsoft have built the server to integrate with Exchange 2007, Roundtable (a 360 degree conferencing device), Live Meeting, Office Communicator Mobile, and Office Communicator Web Access. This allows for the Unified Communication client, allowing users to access all communication from a single point, whereever they are, be it via the web, mobile device, or other office applications.
